NTPC and Chempolis have partnered to conduct a feasibility study for a bamboo-based bio-refinery in
Bongaigaon, Assam
NTPC, the largest power-generating utility in India, and Chempolis India, a Fortum group associate Co & a leading Finnish biorefining technology provider, have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding on 10.04.2023 to explore the feasibility of setting up a Bamboo Based Bio-Refinery in Bongaigaon/Assam. Through this MoU, Chempolis will work with NTPC to conduct the feasibility study for the project which shall utilize bamboo for the production of 2G Ethanol & other value-added products.

We are looking forward to converting the abundantly available feedstock bamboo to ethanol and other valuable outputs like sulfur free lignin, furfural and acetic acid. The refinery will reduce carbon emissions and create welfare to a significant number of families in the region. India is Chempolis home market.”
